Alejandro Inarritu Plans Virtual Reality Project With Legendary
Alejandro Inarritu is stepping into the world of virtual reality.
The director will re-team with long-time collaborator cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki on a experimental short virtual reality film that will center on a follow a group of immigrants and refugees crossing the border between Mexico and the United States.
Inarritu and Lubezki worked together on last year's The Revenant, as well as Birdman. It will be the Oscar-winning duo's first foray into VR.
Legendary Entertainment and Fondazione Prada will produce and finance the short, which has been in-development for four years.
Lucasfilm’s recently established Immersive Entertainment division, ILMxLAB, will build the world and characters.
Inarritu is the just latest director getting into the VR game. He joins Steven Spielberg, who is consulting on a virtual reality venture, and Ridley Scott, who executive produced the Fox's VR companion experience to his feature, The Martian.
