The Fox Innovation Lab at Twentieth Century Fox — an R&D center for new technologies such as augmented and virtual reality — announced a non-exclusive pact with Montreal-based Felix & Paul Studios to develop VR experiences for Fox properties. The first project as part of the deal is expected to be announced in early 2017.

The companies first teamed up in 2015 to create a three-minute proof of concept VR experience for Fox Searchlight’s Wild, which featured the film’s Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern. It was helmed by Felix & Paul founders Paul Raphael and Felix Lajeunesse.

Said Mike Dunn, president of Fox Home Entertainment and Fox Innovation Lab, in a statement: “Felix & Paul Studios is a visionary studio who represents the highest caliber of immersive and engaging experiences, and their vision for bringing virtual reality to mainstream audiences make them a perfect partner to help realize the possibilities for the future of consumer entertainment, from both a creative and technical perspective.”

Added Ryan Horrigan, chief content officer of Felix & Paul Studios and head of the studio's L.A. office: “Fox continues to take a major leadership role in this new medium, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to co-produce [VR with them].”

The deal was brokered by Verve’s Bryan Besser on behalf of Felix & Paul.

The Fox Innovation Lab recently released The Martian VR Experience, which it produced with Ridley Scott’s RSA Films and The Virtual Reality Company (VRC).
