'Grand Budapest Hotel,' 'Into the Woods' Among Art Directors Guild Nominees

In television, ADG nominees include 'Game of Thrones' and 'True Detective'

The Grand Budapest Hotel, Into the Woods and Interstellar are among the nominees for the Art Directors Guild's 19th annual Excellence in Production Design Awards, which will be handed out Jan. 31 at the Beverly Hilton.

ADG has three feature categories: for period film, fantasy film and contemporary film. The nominated titles in the period film category are Inherent Vice, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Imitation Game, The Theory of Everything and Unbroken.

The fantasy category includes Interstellar, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Into the Woods and a pair of Marvel films, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy.

American Sniper, Birdman, Foxcatcher, Gone Girl and Nightcrawler were cited in the contemporary category.

In two of the previous four years, the winner in the period film category went on to win the Oscar for production design, including Hugo in 2012 and The Great Gatsby a year ago.

Nominees in television include Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire and True Detective.

As previously announced, Christopher Nolan will receive the guild’s Cinematic Imagery Award during the ceremony. Production designer Jim Bissell, senior illustrator Camille Abbott, senior set designer John P. Bruce and scenic artist Will Ferrell will be honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards. Hall of Fame inductees are John Gabriel Beckman, Charles Lisanby and Walter Tyler.
