Guillermo del Toro will receive the Distinguished Artisan Award from the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild, Feb. 14 at the Guild's annual awards at Paramount Studios. John Landis will make the presentation.

Del Toro "constantly raises the bar and challenges the skills of our members to their utmost abilities when delineating his film characters. He has always shown strong support while working in collaboration with our makeup artists and hair stylists,” said Guild president Sue Cabral-Ebert.

The writer, producer and director has amassed a list of credits including Pan's Labyrinth, Pacific Rim, Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Pan’s Labyrinth won three Academy Awards: for cinematography, makeup effects and art direction, as well as the BAFTA Award for best foreign film.

His producing credits include The Book of Life, Puss in Boots and Kung Fu Panda 2. He's also credited as a co-writer of the screenplays for The Hobbit films.

Studying with Oscar-winning makeup artist Dick Smith, del Toro spent 10 years as a special effects makeup designer, forming his own company, Necropia. He also co-founded the Guadalajara International Film Festival and his production company, Tequila Gang.

His next feature, the gothic romance Crimson Peak, will be released next October by Legendary Pictures and Universal Studios.

The Strain on FX Networks is based on del Toro’s novels, The Strain, The Fall and The Night Eternal, an apocalyptic vampire trilogy co-authored with Chuck Hogan. He directed the pilot and is an executive producer on the series, which is currently in production on its second season.
