'How to Train Your Dragon 2,' 'Boxtrolls,' 'Planet of the Apes' Get 3D Society Nods

'Exodus: Gods and Kings' and 'The Hobbit' are also among the nominees.

'How to Train Your Dragon 2'

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Exodus: Gods and Kings, How to Train Your Dragon 2, The Boxtrolls and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies are among the nominees for the International 3D and Advanced Imaging Society’s annual Creative Arts Awards.

The nominees in the category for best live action 3D feature are Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Exodus: Gods and Kings, Maleficent, Noah, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, Transformers: Age of Extinction and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

In the category for best animated 3D feature, the nominees are Big Hero 6, How to Train Your Dragon 2, Mr. Peabody & Sherman, Rio 2, The Book of Life, The Boxtrolls, The Lego Movie, Planes: Fire & Rescue and Penguins of Madagascar.

A category for 2D-to-3D conversion includes 300: Rise of an Empire, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Godzilla, Guardians of the Galaxy, Maleficent, Noah, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

In all, the society will present its Lumiere statuettes to honorees in 20 categories during the ceremony, which will be held Jan. 28 at Warner Bros. Studios.

As previously announced, during the ceremony the society’s Harold Lloyd Award will be presented to director Jean-Pierre Jeunet, whose latest work The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet was photographed in 3D. Also Sky, Atlantic Productions and David Attenborough will receive the Society’s Sir Charles Wheatstone Award for creative excellence in 3D storytelling.
