Mixed Reality Studio Launched With Former Disney Infinity Developers
CastAR — a mixed reality startup launched by two former members of the Valve Software team — is introducing castAR Salt Lake City, a mixed reality gaming and entertainment development studio with an unspecified number of new hires from the former Avalanche Software who most recently worked on the Disney Infinity franchise.
Steve Parkis, president and COO of castAR (and a Disney alum) will oversee the team, which will work with those at castAR's Pal Alto, Calif., headquarters.
"We're excited to have them join us in creating a new generation of gaming through mixed reality experiences," said Parkis in a statement. "With their experience in bringing massive franchises to life through breakthrough interactive design, the addition of this team is our next bold step in launching a dynamic platform that will bring awe-inspiring mixed reality to households."
Last month, castAR hired Darrell Rodriguez, a former president of LucasArts and COO of Electronic Arts Los Angeles, as the company's new CEO.
Funded by Playground Global, castAR was founded in 2013 as Technical Illusions by Jeri Ellsworth and Rick Johnson, who previously worked on Valve's augmented and virtual reality team.
