Rick F. Gunter, 'Beverly Hills, 90210' and 'Dallas' Cinematographer, Dies at 65
Rick F. Gunter, the Emmy-nominated cinematographer whose credits include Beverly Hills, 90210 (1992-98) and Dallas (1988-91), died Wednesday. He was 65.
He was a member of the American Society of Cinematographers, which confirmed his passing.
Gunter earned an Emmy nomination in 2011 for Wizards of Waverly Place — he worked on the Disney Channel show for five years — and shot such other series as Charmed, Lab Rats and Jessie.
The cinematographer grew up in the film industry. His father, Marvin, came up through the crew system and became a cameraman, and Rick worked as a child actor until his teens.
Gunter studied still photography at college, then started as a second assistant cameraman and worked his way up through the ranks. He became a director of photography in 1987.
Gunter is survived by his wife Cathy; sons Brian, Cory and Terry; and six grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gunter's name to the Motion Picture Television Fund with the memo reading "Palliative Care."
