'Rogue One' and 'Star Wars Episode VIII' to Get 3D Treatment From Deluxe's Stereo D
Having completed the 2D to 3D conversion for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Deluxe’s 3D business Stereo D confirmed on Monday that it has a deal with Lucasfilm and The Walt Disney Studios to create the stereoscopic editions for two additional titles in the franchise.
They are Rogue One from director Gareth Edwards, scheduled for a Dec. 16, 2016, release; and Star Wars: Episode VIII, from director Rian Johnson, scheduled for release on May 26, 2017.
Work on Star Wars: The Force Awakens reunited Deluxe with director J.J. Abrams, for whom Stereo D produced 3D on Star Trek: Into Darkness. The studio had also collaborated with Lucasfilm's visual effects house Industrial Light & Magic while creating the stereoscopic 3D on movies such as Marvel’s The Avengers and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Stereo D executive vp and chief creative officer Aaron Parry and his team will oversee the stereo production with Lucasfilm’s vp VFX Janet Lewin and vp postproduction Pippa Anderson.
