Technicolor Advancing Digital Dailies Development With Cloud Takes Acquisition
Technicolor is expanding its digital dailies technology with the acquisition of Cloud Takes, an L.A.-based digital-dailies technology company, and the hiring of Cloud Takes founder Daryll Strauss as vp software development.
Strauss -- who reports to Creative Services COO Nathan Wappet -- is leading Technicolor's new applications engineering group within its Creative Services division. Acquired technology from Cloud Takes include a number of IP applications that allow for security encryption embedded in dailies content in real time, on-set or on-location. The new group will bring these and other technologies to Technicolor's digital dailies services.
Strauss had previously written software applications for Technicolor's FrameLogic dailies system, which has been used on features such as Iron Man 3, Captain Phillips, Jupiter Ascending and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Earlier in his career, Strauss served as head of software development at Digital Domain, during which time his department created VFX applications used in Apollo 13, The Fifth Element and Titanic.
