Would you believe that American Idol contestants are only allotted $400 for their costume on each episode of the global hit show? That adds up to $800 a week for two costumes: $400 for the performance show, $400 for the results episode.
According to the show's Emmy-winning former costume designer Soyon An, pulling together an outfit for only $400 that will impress millions of viewers is daunting. Even if you only shop at Forever 21, H&M and Top Shop, $400 does not go very far.
If you saw Carey Mulligan -- aka Baz Luhrmann's Daisy Buchanan -- in the May issue of Vogue wearing a seafoam beaded flapper gown by Miu Miu and dreamed of owning it, well, now you can (after all, there are going to be a lot of Gatsby parties coming up).
The Rodeo Drive Miu Miu boutique is now selling in a limited-edition run the beaded gown in a few sizes -- for $19,000.
The iconic fashion designer (and free spirit) is adding reality star to her resume, with the launch of her new show XOX Betsey Johnson, which follows Johnson and her daughter as they try to pick up the pieces following her company's bankruptcy filing last April.
The timing of the show couldn't have come at a more interesting time for the two. For one, Betsey's daughter Lulu was also going through a rough patch.
If Clark Kent were in the optical business, his name would be Warby Parker. For every pair of vintage-inspired glasses purchased from the eyewear startup (as done by Ryan Gosling, Sophia Bush and Olivia Wilde), a pair is distributed to someone in need. So in partnership with Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, Warby Parker has created a Man of Steel-inspired limited-edition capsule collection to evoke the dapper do-gooder in its most devout Superman fans.
Ottavio Missoni, the co-founder and patriarch of iconic Italian fashion house Missoni, died at his Northern Italian home on Thursday at the age of 92.
A statement released by the brand -- which is worn by Jessica Chastain, Marion Cotillard and Penelope Cruz, to name a few -- said Missoni passed away "peacefully at home, surrounded by friends and family."
It's down to the final three on Fashion Star, with a winner set to be crowned in Friday night's finale.
In the season two closer, the remaining designers -- Cassandra Hobbins, Daniel Silverstein and Hunter Bell -- are tasked to create their own collection for each of the retailers. Eliminated designers return to assist their teammates -- which isn't welcome news to all of them.
Cross one off the guest list for next year's Met Gala: Gwyneth Paltrow.
The Iron Man 3 actress reportedly has no plans of returning to the Costume Institute's annual star-studded event -- co-chaired by Anna Wintour and, this year, Paltrow's pal Beyonce.
Anna Wintour, Kanye West and Kim Kardashianhad dinner together on Sunday evening. Which led us to believe that the supposed rift between the reality star and the Vogue helmer was finally behind us.
We mentioned WME agent Andrew Weitz in our March 29th print issue story, "Secrets of Hollywood's Best Dressed Male Agents," in which writer Laurie Pike said that the ten percenter "looked less like a WME talent agent and more like a
Moda Operandi isn’t the only one cashing in on last night’s Met Ball fashions. The Topshop looks worn by Nicole Richie, Julianne Hough, Jaime King, Jourdan Dunn and Ashley Madekwe will all be sold at the High Street retailer’s storefronts in New York, Los Angeles and London’s Oxford Circus, as well as on its website. Expect the selections to be available come September, ranging between $630 and $1,050.
Draped from head to toe in opulence, Carey Mulligan commands the screen as Daisy Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby. But bringing the 1920s princess to life required the aid of Academy Award-winning costume designer (and wife of Luhrmann) Catherine Martin.
“What I loved was working with Catherine Martin,” Mulligan tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Talking about [the costumes] and the kind of decisions that we made.”
Beyonce who? Madonna, Queen of Pop, stole the show from fellow late-arriver Queen Bey at this year's splashy punk-themed Met Gala, hitting the red carpet in a Givenchy plaid jacket, a barely-there fishnet body stocking, a black wig and layers of chains and metal. Her entourage included twenty-something dancer-beau Brahim Zaibat, whose Edward Scissorhands-y ensemble included a black skirt over black pants and who clutched small versions of the flags of Israel and Palestine.
