Would you believe that American Idol contestants are only allotted $400 for their costume on each episode of the global hit show? That adds up to $800 a week for two costumes: $400 for the performance show, $400 for the results episode.
According to the show's Emmy-winning former costume designer Soyon An, pulling together an outfit for only $400 that will impress millions of viewers is daunting. Even if you only shop at Forever 21, H&M and Top Shop, $400 does not go very far.

Ottavio Missoni, the co-founder and patriarch of iconic Italian fashion house Missoni, died at his Northern Italian home on Thursday at the age of 92.
A statement released by the brand -- which is worn by Jessica Chastain, Marion Cotillard and Penelope Cruz, to name a few -- said Missoni passed away "peacefully at home, surrounded by friends and family."
It's down to the final three on Fashion Star, with a winner set to be crowned in Friday night's finale.
In the season two closer, the remaining designers -- Cassandra Hobbins, Daniel Silverstein and Hunter Bell -- are tasked to create their own collection for each of the retailers. Eliminated designers return to assist their teammates -- which isn't welcome news to all of them.

Expect the selections to be available come September, ranging between $630 and $1,050.
Draped from head to toe in opulence, Carey Mulligan commands the screen as Daisy Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby. But bringing the 1920s princess to life required the aid of Academy Award-winning costume designer (and wife of Luhrmann) Catherine Martin.
“What I loved was working with Catherine Martin,” Mulligan tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Talking about [the costumes] and the kind of decisions that we made.”
Beyonce who? Madonna, Queen of Pop, stole the show from fellow late-arriver Queen Bey at this year's splashy punk-themed Met Gala, hitting the red carpet in a Givenchy plaid jacket, a barely-there fishnet body stocking, a black wig and layers of chains and metal. Her entourage included twenty-something dancer-beau Brahim Zaibat, whose Edward Scissorhands-y ensemble included a black skirt over black pants and who clutched small versions of the flags of Israel and Palestine.
