VIDEO: 'American Idol' Welcome Home Special

American Idol fans may have noticed a flurry of Twitter activity over the weekend when a half-hour documentary special called AI: Welcome Home mysteriously appeared on several Fox affiliates. With nary a press release to announce its arrival, the one-off show chronicles the journeys of all nine winners as they travel back to their hometowns and reflect on their Idol experiences.

Helping tell their stories are various friends, family members (Ruben Studdard's dad: inspiring), music teachers and mentors, not to mention ridiculously cute baby pictures of David Cook. A fascinating study of the modern-day Cinderella story, even if five of the subjects are male, it's also a sweet, straight-up look at life before and after Idol, without drowning in sap.

Missed it? You're in luck. The doc is viewable in four parts on americanidol.com, which also has a list of Fox stations airing the special, or you can watch it in its entirety here.
