ABC Family Greenlights Three Series
ABC Family has picked up two hourlong dramas and a sitcom starring Raven-Symone.
All three received nine-episode orders in addition to the pilots and will premiere later this year.
The Great State of Georgia, toplined by Raven-Symone, is a multicamera comedy centered on an aspiring actress with a larger-than-life personality who is joined by her science geek best friend (Roswell’s Majandra Delfino) as they live in New York City.
The series will be executive produced by Kirk J. Rudell and In Her Shoes author Jennifer Weiner. Meagen Fay co-stars as Aunt Honey. ABC Studios is producing.
Switched at Birth tells the story of two teenage girl, Bay Kennish (Vanessa Marano) and Daphne Vasquez (Katie Leclerc), who find out they were switched as babies in the hospital. Bay grew up in a wealthy family while Daphne, who lost her hearing due to meningitis, grew up with a single mother in a poor neighborhood.
Lizzy Weiss, Paul Stupin and John Ziffren will executive produce. The drama also stars Constance Marie, D.W. Moffett, Lea Thompson and Lucas Grabeel.
Lastly, The Nine Lives of Chloe King — based on the novel of the same name by Celia Thomson -- follows Chloe (Skyler Samuels) as she develops abilities and finds out that a mysterious figure is pursuing her. Chloe learns that she’s part of an ancient race that has been hunted by assassins for millennia.
Dan Berendsen, Ziffren serve as executive producers with Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo. Grey Damon, Grace Phipps, Benjamin Stone, Alyssa Diaz and Ki Hong Lee co-star.
These mark the first series pickups by new ABC Family president Michael Riley.
