Conan to announce show name Wednesday
Conan O'Brien plans to reveal the name of his new late-night talk show Wednesday, he teased on Twitter today.
"I was going to announce the name of my new show today, but my lawyers tell me 'The Return of Nanny McPhee' is taken. Tune in tomorrow," quipped O'Brien, whose TBS show premieres in November.
One name that's tough to land: "Conan," because -- as first reported by The Hollywood Reporter's THR, Esq. blog -- a company called Conan Properties International owns the trademark. It has been using the title in connection with promoting the Conan the Barbarian films for decades.
After stepping down as Tonight Show host, O'Brien negotiated with NBC to use his own name in the title of another show. Indeed, he's referred to as just "Conan" in the first two promos of his show. But while "Late Show" and "Tonight Show" are trademarked by NBC, he'd also be unlikely to use a name like "Conan Tonight" because it's too similar to his TBS colleague George Lopez's "Lopez Tonight."
