Cotton Bowl Gives Fox Friday Win
Fox's coverage of the Cotton Bowl between LSU and Texas A&M gave the network a Friday win.
The game, which saw SEC powerhouse LSU taking home the big trophy, drew a 5.4 overnight household rating. Fox averaged 9.4 million viewers (2.8 rating/9 share in 18-49 demo).
On the other networks, CBS provided Fox with its closest challenge, airing new episodes of Medium (6.9 million, 1.4/5) and CSI: NY (9.4 million, 1.6/5), along with a repeat of The Mentalist (7.4 million, 1.3/4). CBS was an easy No. 2 in total viewers (7.9 million) and but placed third in the demo (1.5/4).
ABC was third with a new Supernanny (4.8 million), which equaled a season-high in the demo (1.3/4). At 9 p.m., What Do You Know? was up 18% in total viewers (5.2 million) and was up 31% in the demo (1.7/5) since its last telecast Dec. 17. Since its last airing, 20/20 was up 70% in the demo (1.7/5) and drew 2 million more viewers (6 million), beating the second hour of NBC's Dateline by 21% in both measures. The net averaged 5.3 million viewers and a 1.6 in 18-49 for the night.
NBC followed with a Minute to Win It rerun (4.3 million, 1.2/4) and a new two-hour Dateline (5.5 million, 1.2/4). The net was fourth for the day.
The CW was a distant last place, airing repeats of its Friday lineup: Smallville (1.5 million, 0.6/2) and Supernatural (1.2 million, 0.5/1).
