'Dead,' 'Boardwalk,' 'Justified' Land WGA Noms

The Writers Guild of America nominations gave some hints as to what new series might become contenders for major industry awards next year, with HBO's Boardwalk Empire, AMC's The Walking Dead and FX's Justified among the nominees for best new series.

TNT's Men of a Certain Age and HBO's Treme filled out the category, which honors writing among freshman shows.

Boardwalk also scored a best drama series nomination alongside familiar favorites AMC's Breaking Bad, Showtime's Dexter, NBC's Friday Night Lights and, of course, AMC's Mad Men

On the comedy side, this year's Emmy newcomers Fox's Glee and ABC's Modern Family made the list, along with Showtime's Nurse Jackie, NBC's 30 Rock and The Office. Absent was any new fall comedies, such as Fox's Raising Hope.

The awards will be handed out Feb. 5 at the 2011 Writers Guild Awards.
