'Glee' returns to series high ratings

114Glee-Ep_3286 UPDATED: The midseason return of Fox's "Glee" hit a series high in the ratings Tuesday night, bolstered by an "American Idol" lead-in.

"Glee" drew a record 13.7 million viewers and a 5.6 adults 18-49 rating. The "Glee" return was 44% bigger than its pilot preview after the "American
Idol" finale last year.

"Glee" retained 78% of its 90-minute "Idol" (20.6 million, 7.3) lead-in to easily rank as the night's highest-rated scripted series.

Fox points out that the "Glee" rating is the largest for any freshman scripted series this year.

Fox ruled Tuesday, though runner-up NBC fared pretty well. "Biggest Loser" (8.4 million, 3.3) climbed 10%, while "Parenthood" (6.3 million, 2.5) only dipped a tenth against "Glee."

ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" results show (13.6 million, 2.8) was up 10%, "Lost" (9.5 million, 3.9) was flat and "V" (5.6 million, 2.2) slipped to a series low.

CBS stayed out of the way, airing all repeats.

The CW's "90210" (1.5 million, 0.7) was modest and the season series finale of "Melrose Place" (1.1 million, 0.5) limped to the finish line.
