PTC slams 'Glee' pictorial as 'pedophilia'
The PTC is clashing with broadcasters again.
The parents group is slamming Fox's Glee for a GQ pictorial they say "borders on pedophilia."
“It is disturbing that GQ, which is explicitly written for adult men, is sexualizing the actresses who play high school-aged characters on Glee in this way," said PTC President Tim Winter. "It borders on pedophilia. Sadly, this is just the latest example of the overt sexualization of young girls in entertainment."
The actresses are far from underage, however. In the pictures below, Dianna Agron and Lea Michele are both 24 and Cory Monteith is 28.
On Fox, Glee has been known for delivering a fair amount of risque content, as well as drawing praise from parents for its handling of family and high school relationships.
The PTC also has a long history of clashing with Glee creator Ryan Murphy, who was the showrunner of FX's edgy Nip/Tuck. Not for the first time, Winter pointed out Murphy's comment during an interview, where the writer-producer said, "It’s tough to get that sexual point of view across on television. Hopefully I have made it possible for somebody on broadcast television to do a rear-entry scene in three years.“
“Parents need to be on guard as we expect the show to push the envelope even further," Winter said. "Unfortunately, it seems Glee is only masquerading as family show and is far from appropriate for young viewers."
Fox had no comment, but GQ released this statement: “The Parents Television Council must not be watching much TV these days and should learn to divide reality from fantasy. As often happens in Hollywood, these ‘kids’ are in their twenties. Cory Montieth's almost 30! I think they're old enough to do what they want.”
