'Ugly Betty' moving to Wednesdays
"Ugly Betty" is being rescued from Friday nights -- again!
Sources say "Betty" is moving to Wednesdays at 10 p.m., taking over the slot most recently held by "Eastwick."
Back in 2006, ABC shifted "Betty" from a planned Friday night series debut to high-profile Thursdays after critics loved the pilot. After a modestly successful run in the slot, ABC downshifted the show to Fridays this fall, for real this time, once ratings fell off. But "Betty" lost more viewers in its new time period than any other returning show. Plus, adding "Betty" could make Wednesday an all-comedy lineup, following the ABC's sitcom block.
ABC had no comment, though sources say the move will likely happen very soon.
Receiving a network pardon from a Friday slot is rare. The evening have become a night where broadcasters put shows on their last legs. "Betty" has received some rave reviews this season, however.
ABC will use the remaining five episodes of "Shark Tank" in the "Betty" slot, continuing the reality show's string of tough time periods.
