Most watched Stanley Cup Final in 36 years
UPDATED: Wednesday night's Stanley Cup final was the most-watched and highest-rated NHL telecast in 36 years.
Game 6 between the Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers game was seen by 8.3 million viewers -- the most since Game 3 between Boston and Philadelphia in 1974. The NBC telecast was also up 43% from last year's final NHL game.
The win gave the Blackhawks its first championship since 1961.
Overall, the six games of the Stanley Cup averaged 6.1 million viewers, the most-watched finals in 13 years.
Meanwhile, Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance" (8 million viewers, 3.0 adults 18-49 rating) rose 7% this week.
The "SYTYCD" gain continues a recent trend where veteran summer reality shows like "The Bachelorette," "America's Got Talent" and "Hell's Kitchen" are sporting week-to-week gains instead of declines after their premieres. Summer viewers have presumably been a bit slower re-discovering their broadcast favorites are back on the air.
