DreamWorks pacts with ‘I Love You, Man’ writer-director John Hamburg
Long associated with the company, Hamburg now has a two-year, first-look writing-directing-producing deal.
DreamWorks Studios has signed a two-year, first-look deal with “I Love You, Man” writer-director John Hamburg.
Hamburg has long been associated with the company and co-chair/CEO Stacey Snider. In addition to co-writing, producing and directing “I Love You, Man,” Hamburg co-wrote the screenplays for the DreamWorks-produced “Meet the Parents” and “Meet the Fockers,” which Universal released. He is currently producing “The Defenders” with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who also have a pact with the studio.
"John is a triple threat: writer, director and producer,” said Snider. “He has a unique voice and can go from idea to movie all on his own. He’s going to be a huge asset to our company; and on a personal level, it’s deeply gratifying to be officially reunited after our collaborations on ‘Along Came Polly,’ ‘Meet the Parents,’ ‘Meet the Fockers’ and ‘I Love You, Man.’”
Hamburg joins Steve Zaillian (Film Rites), Walter F. Parkes & Laurie MacDonald (Parkes/MacDonald), Nina Jacobson (Color Force), Ben Stiller (Red Hour) and Kurtzman and Orci (Paper Products) as pacted talent at DreamWorks.
“From when she first hired me on ‘Meet the Parents’ to ‘I Love You, Man,’ Stacey Snider has always believed in the type of movies that I want to make,” said Hamburg.
The WME-repped Hamburg also co-wrote “Zoolander,” and wrote and directed “Along Came Polly” and “Safe Men.” He most recently co-wrote and produced “Little Fockers,” which Universal will release in December.
