Magnolia snags U.S. rights to Max Winkler’s ‘Ceremony’ (exclusive)
Magnolia Pictures has picked up U.S. distribution rights to writer-director Max Winkler's indie comedy "Ceremony," produced by NALA Films.
The film, which stars Michael Angarano, Lee Pace, Reece Thompson and Uma Thurman, had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last month and just screened at the Hampton's International Film Festival.
In the movie, Angarano ("Snow Angels") plays a young man who crashes the Long Island wedding weekend of an ex-girlfriend (Thurman) who he's trying to win back.
Darlene Camaano Loquet, Emilio Diez Barroso, Polly Johnsen and Matt Spicer produced the movie, and "Up in the Air" producers Jason Reitman and Daniel Dubiecki are exec producers.
Magnolia recently released "I Am Love," "Ondine," "The Extra Man," "Barry Munday" and "I'm Still Here." The company will next send out the crime drama "All Good Things" and the documentary "Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer."
NALA FIlms produced "In the Valley of Elah" and the in-the-works comedy "Casa de mi padre," starring Will Ferrell, Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal.
