Rachel Weisz's 'The Whistleblower' Picked Up By Samuel Goldwyn Films

Rachel Weisz thriller The Whistleblower has found several homes, including an American distributor.

Samuel Goldwyn Films has picked up all U.S. rights and is eyeing an August 2011 release.

A week before AFM opened, sales company Voltage Pictures, run by Nicholas Chartier, inked a series of last-minute international deals.
 
Snapping up the movie are Archer for Singapore; AXN for India; CLMC for Portugal; D Productions for Turkey; Deepjoy for Taiwan; Delta Films for Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru; Deskylin for Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Chile; eOne for Canada; Euro TV for France; Gulf for the Middle East; Gussi for Mexico; Hopscotch for Australia; Imagem for Brazil; Mediapro for Romania; Myndform for Iceland; Pa-Dora for Ex-Yugoslavia; Polar Star for Latin America; PT Parkit for Indonesia; Rialto for Switzerland; Scanbox for Scandinavia; Shapira for Israel; SquareOne for Germany; Star TV for pay television in Asia; Sundream for Hong Kong; and Village Roadshow for Greece.

International sales were launched at the previous AFM.
 
The ripped-from-the-headlines thriller, inspired by actual events, stars Weisz as a Nebraskan police officer who takes a job working as a peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia. Her expectations of helping to rebuild a devastated country are dashed when she uncovers a dangerous reality of corruption, cover-up and intrigue amid a world of private contractors and multinational diplomatic doubletalk.

The film also stars Academy Award winner Vanessa Redgrave, Monica Bellucci and Academy Award nominee David Strathairn.
