Piracy Hot List: 'Despicable Me,' Dr. Dre, NBC's 'Chuck'

Universal's Despicable Me was the most-pirated film on torrent websites last week. The animated hit, scheduled to be released on DVD on Dec. 14th, pushed Inception, still a week away from its own DVD release, from the top spot.

On the music front, the big piracy news concerned the leak of two tracks from Dr. Dre's long-awaited comeback album, Detox. Copies of the song "Under Pressure," featuring Jay-Z, and "Kush," featuring Snoop Dogg, circulated on the Internet. The release of the songs has gotten under the skin of Dre, who was forced to push up the release of the "Kush" single.

On the flip side, indie darling Deerhoof has made a sport of leaking its new record, Deerhoof vs. Evil, due Jan. 25. The band has slowly released songs from the album and gave fans a treasure map on its website that leads to various music websites.

Finally, in TV piracy news, shows like Dexter and Boardwalk Empire, on pay TV outlets Showtime and HBO, continue to be hot commodities in torrent circles. But many types of shows are popular, making it tough to spot trends (other than the fact that all kinds of people like to watch illegal downloads).
