American Music Awards 2014: The Complete Winners List

On Sunday night the 2014 American Music Awards took over the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles to celebrate the very best of the music industry. Going into the evening, Iggy Azalea was leading the pack with six nominations, with expectations high for performances from Taylor Swift, Imagine Dragons, Selena Gomez and others.

One Direction kicked things off with the first win of the evening, and went on to snag both pop/rock album honors for Midnight Memories as well as Artist of the Year, beating out such heavyweights as Beyoncé in the process. Despite heat from both Iggy Azalea and Lorde, Katy Perry took home (via remote message) the award for pop/rock female artist. In fact, despite not being at the show, Perry went on to tie One Direction with a total of three awards, including favorite adult contemporary artist and Single of the Year for "Dark Horse," featuring Juicy J.

Despite four nominations — and a dramatic, colorful performance of "Yellow Flicker Beat" — Lorde was completely shut out, and while Iggy Izalea's six nominations may have been the story going into the show they resulted in just two awards. Then again, Izalea's closing performance of "Booty" with Jennifer Lopez provided much to talk about no matter how the awards went.
