'The Voice's' Cee Lo Green Announces Upcoming Solo and Goodie Mob Albums
On Wednesday, funk singer and NBC’s The Voice coach, Cee Lo Green, revealed that he has two new albums in the works.
In two short Twitter posts (here and here), Green announced his fourth solo studio album, Everybody’s Brother, and that his next album with the hip hop group, Goodie Mob, will be titled Age Against The Machine.
Apparently, the Grammy-winner’s participation in NBC’s The Voice has created a new interest in his previous music projects.
“Television is such a different platform and it opens you up to so many other people,” Green’s manager, Primary-Violator's Michael "Blue" Williams, told The Hollywood Reporter at the 2nd Annual Primary Violator Manager's Brunch at the SLS Hotel.
“You’ve got young fans now discovering his older material for the first time, and some people revisiting it now,” he continues. “People are rediscovering the Goodie Mob, so now we can put together a new Goodie Mob album. It creates an atmosphere where people feel like this is new, even if he’s been around for 18 years.”
A rep for Green tells THR that both albums will be released later this year.
His last album with Atlanta’s Goodie Mob was 2009’s World Party. Green didn’t join the group for its fourth studio album, One Monkey Don’t Stop The Show, as he was working on his solo career.
Last July, Green announced (via Twitter as well) that he was rejoining the group for an album called We Sell Drugs Too. Presumably, that album stalled or the title has been changed to the one announced on Wednesday. The group performed together last November on the Soul Train Awards as a tribute to the late Heavy D.
The fashionable singer, who’s also one-half of duo Gnarls Barkley, released his last solo album, Lady Killer, in 2010. It debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard charts and sold 41,000 copies its first week. The album produced three singles for Green, including “Forget You” aka “F—ck You,” which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Currently, Green appears Mondays at 8 p.m. on NBC’s The Voice. He’s performing Sunday at Muhammad Ali’s birthday celebration in Las Vegas. And he’s launching a seven-date European tour in April.
Update: Album release has been included.
