Coldplay Unveils 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' Song, 'Atlas' (Video)
The first listen for The Hunger Game: Catching Fire has arrived.
Coldplay on Friday unveiled "Atlas," their first new song in nearly two years and the first contribution to the Lionsgate sequel's soundtrack. Watch the lyric video below.
The slow, sweeping ballad was written specifically for the film, which finds Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) adjusting to life as victors following the events of the Hunger Games. That is, until they are thrown back into the arena for the 75th annual games -- the dreaded Quarter Quell. Liam Hemsworth, Lenny Kravitz, Donald Sutherland, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci and Woody Harrelson all return, while newcomers include Jena Malone, Sam Claflin, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Jeffrey Wright.
"Atlas" was written specifically for the film and references Katniss' weapon of choice, a bow and arrow, and seems to allude to the political unrest brewing in the nation of Panem. The song was recorded at Coldplay's Beehive studio in London earlier this year and was produced by Coldplay with Daniel Green and Rik Simpson.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire hits theaters Nov. 22. A release date for the accompanying soundtrack, to be distributed by Lionsgate and Republic Records, has not yet been announced.
