Cookie Monster Parodies Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe' (VIDEO)
Showing more restraint in his consumption than normal, the furry blue muppet makes a pop plea for some cookies in "Share It Maybe."
Pop just got sweeter, thanks to Cookie Rae Jepsen.
Sesame Street Workshop has once again put its fuzzy embrace around the zeitgeist, this time spinning the breakout Carly Rae Jepsen smash hit "Call Me Maybe" into Cookie Monster's new single and video, "Share It Maybe."
Showing a lyrical complexity that may come as a surprise to casual observer of the soft-spoken Cookie Monster (often, he simply offers "om nom nom" in limited conversation), the video takes place in an office space that has an enviable amount of sweets and dancing compared to most.
The song also puts to rest any speculation that Cookie Monster could be sated with sweets such as ice cream and chocolate pudding; as he makes clear in his crooning, they don't phase him.
Close observers may have seen this coming; on June 18, Sesame Street tweeted, "Cookie Monster: Me just met you. Dis is crazy. But me love cookies! Gimme, maybe?"
Here's the first verse of the song; watch the video to take it all in.
Me got a wish on me mind, it is a chocolate chip kind,
Me look at you and me tell, you may have snickerdoodle,
Me trade me soul for a bite, me spell it out black and white,
Me look at you and me see you like an elf in a tree,
You cookie showing, and me hunger growing,
Let's get skim milk going, we'll start this snack going baby.
