Jewel Records Free Single Benefiting Child Hunger Charity (Video, Audio)
Along with Owl City and Jay Sean, the singer/songwriter recorded an original song that donates money to the Feeding America organization with every download.
As part of ConAgra Foods’ Child Hunger Ends Here campaign, Jewel, along with Jay Sean and Owl City, have recorded an original song to benefit Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization.

Written by songwriters Hunter Hayes, Luke Laird, and Barry Dean, the performers had a chance to put their own spin on the song, “Here’s Hope.”
“I got to record a lot of it down here at my ranch home [in Texas],” Jewel tells The Hollywood Reporter. “And I have a friend in Nashville who did the track up there, and we wanted to put a choir on it and I've never had a choir on a song before, so we were excited to do that and we liked how it came out.”
Jewel, who found herself homeless in her teens, connects to the cause very personally. “It's something I struggled with as a kid,” the singer/songwriter, who’s currently appearing as a guest mentor on NBC’s The Voice, says.
“There were lot of times I didn't know where my next meal was coming from when I lived in Anchorage,” she continues. “Now as a new mom, it affects you differently because you're not just thinking of it from the child's perspective, but from the mom's perspective of what it would be like to not be able to provide for your kid.”
According to Feeding America, one in five children suffer from hunger in which they may go without food for several meals or days.
“This is affecting 16 million kids in America,” Jewel points out. “It's not that they're all homeless or starving, the parents have jobs, but they're having a hard time making ends meet and at the end of the month they might be choosing between medication and eating. And those are the things a lot of Americans are facing.”
