John Mayer Previews New Single 'Shadow Days' (Audio)
The singer-songwriter, who underwent throat surgery in the fall, is expected to make a series of performances at the annual SXSW festival.
John Mayer is back.
The singer songwriter has posted a first listen to his newest track, titled “Shadow Days,” on his Tumblr account. The song is Mayer’s first since undergoing throat surgery to treat granuloma, or throat inflammation, in late October and will be featured on his next studio album.
“Here’s a clip of the first single off Born and Raised, called ‘Shadow Days,’” Mayer wrote. “I’m excited to share the first bit of sound from the album… Been looking forward to a post like this since October 14, 2010, the first day I started writing this group of songs. Enjoy.”
Born and Raised will be Mayer’s first album since 2009’s Battle Studies, which notched the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 and earned him three Grammy nominations. The new album does not yet have a release date, but is expected to drop later this year.
Mayer is confirmed to perform at the South by Southwest Music Conference in Austin, Texas on Sunday, March 17th. Per a statement on his site, the Stubb’s Bar-B-Q performance will mark Mayer’s first return to the fest since his career-changing show in March 2000. It has been rumored that the gig won’t be his only one at the festival, though the singer has yet to confirm any additional shows at this time.
