“We had a conversation and since then, we’ve been in contact with their team,” says Macklemore in a new interview on Arizona’s Power 98.3. “He was super cool, his team was super cool, it's really dope that an icon and legend like L.A. Reid would fly to Montana. That was super humbling to have him watch the show and be juiced.” Macklemore adds that, without a doubt, it was Reid’s first time in Big Sky Country.

As it turns out, Reid is one of a slew of label heads who’ve “been in contact over the last couple weeks.” But since Macklemore, who’s built a following organically and methodically since coming onto the Seattle scene in 2000, has been hailed as the poster boy for the modern-day DIY movement (not to mention gay rights, thanks to M&L's conscious song, "Same Love"), it’s unclear whether he’d go the major label route.

One company where he may run into a snag is Interscope, since one of the songs on The Heist is called “Jimmy Iovine” and doesn’t exactly paint the music biz lifer in a positive light. Macklemore’s manager Zach Quillen insists that Iovine is “a fictional character in the song, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “It's that guy -- the big known, notable record executive with all of this influence and history.”

“I’m really happy to be doing it independently,” the 29-year-old rapper tells radio personality Bootleg Kev. “We're going to try to keep going that route. We'll see what happens.”
