MTV VMAs: Sam Smith to Perform
Stay with you, we shall
Last, but definitely not least? For the MTV Video Music Awards, it's Sam Smith.
The network announced Tuesday that the final performer of this year's awards show — which will be held at Inglewood, Calif.'s renovated venue The Forum on Sunday, Aug. 24 — is the "Stay With Me" singer. It will mark his U.S. award show performance debut.
Smith's hit is nominated in the best male music video category, going up against Pharrell Williams' "Happy," John Legend's "All of Me," Ed Sheeran's "Sing," and Eminem and Rihanna's "Monster" duet. It's also up for the MTV Artist to Watch award, alongside 5 Seconds of Summer's "She Looks So Perfect, " Charli XCX's "Boom Clap," Schoolboy Q's "Man of the Year" and Fifth Harmony's "Miss Movin On."
The VMAs performance lineup is proving to be a strong one, with previously announced Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Rita Ora, Iggy Azalea, Maroon 5, Usher, Ariana Grande and 5 Seconds of Summer also expected to take the stage.
Beyonce, also the recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, leads this year's pack with eight nominations, including video of the year and best female video.
Jesse Ignjatovic, Amy Doyle, Garrett English and Dave Sirulnick are executive producers. Joanna Bomberg, Jen Jones and Lee Lodge are co-executive producers. Hamish Hamilton is director.
The VMAs will air Sunday, Aug. 24, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
