Pete Townshend on Mick Jagger's Anatomy: 'Huge and Extremely Tasty'
At a press conference for The Who's upcoming North American tour, the guitarist poked fun at a Rolling Stones feud by weighing in on the singer's privates.
Pete Townshend has no complaints, at least where Mick Jagger is concerned.
At a press conference today announcing a 36-date North American tour for The Who, in which the band will perform their 1973 double album Quadrophenia in its entirety, the guitarist shared his thoughts on The Rolling Stones frontman's ... uh ... assets.
"What I remember of the size of Mick Jagger's penis -- I remember it as being huge and extremely tasty," Townshend said, according to Rolling Stone magazine, with his bandmate Roger Daltrey laughing beside him. Townshend added, "I don't remember anything about Roger's, and wouldn't dare to mention it. Let's hope that makes the internet."
The comments reference an ongoing feud between Jagger and longtime bandmate Keith Richards, after Richards wrote in his 2010 memoir Life that Mick's onetime lover Marianne Faithfull "had no fun with his tiny dodger ... I know he's got an enormous pair of balls -- but it doesn't quite fill the gap."
The two rock titans have ended their spat, with Richards admitting to Rolling Stone in May that "some parts of [the book], and some of the publicity, really offended Mick and I regret that." Rehearsals are currently underway for the Stones' 50th anniversary tour, set to debut in 2013.
Townshend, who has three children with ex-wife Karen Astely and currently lives with his longtime partner, Rachel Fuller, admitted in 1990 book Rock Lives: Profiles and Interviews that he has had same-sex relationships throughout his life.
Townshend credits the 1980 song "Empty Glass" as being a song about ''coming out, an acknowledgment of the fact that I'd had a gay life, and that I understood what gay sex was about.''
Tickets for the Quadrophenia Tour go on sale to the general public on July 27, with the first show Tuesday, Nov. 1 at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla.
