Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora has released a new song, "Engine 19," dedicated to the firefighters and other first responders who risk their lives every day.

The track, co-written by longtime Elton John collaborator Bernie Taupin, was released on the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

"With deepest compassion, Bernie Taupin and I wrote this song dedicated to victims families and heroes of 9/11," tweeted Sambora of the beautiful ballad, which features Sambora's deep and soulful vocals set against a spare piano.

The poignant lyrics tell a story of a family of firefighters and the struggles of the job, when "there's those that we've lost from the fire and the smoke, from a roof caving in, when there's one less comes out, from Engine 19."

Although the song was written as a tribute to the brave New York firefighters who gave their lives on that day, the release coincided with another tragic event on the East Coast, as most of the south end of the Seaside Boardwalk -- featured in an early Bon Jovi video, "In and Out of Love" -- battled a 10-alarm fire the following day.

"Man I feel so bad for the people in my home state down in Seaside," tweeted Sambora. "Once again you are in my heart and prayers..."
