'X Factor': Simon Cowell Calls for a Britney Spears-Demi Lovato Duet
The pop stars have already joined forces on the Fox reality competition, debuting its second season Wednesday night.
Whether Britney Spears and Demi Lovato make for winning TV ratings remains to be seen, but could they be making musical magic, as well?
At the world premiere of The X Factor’s second season, held at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood, the pop divas joined fellow judges Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid to watch the debut episode and answer audience questions.
Between shrieks of “I love you, Britney” (and “Demi,” respectively), the judges managed to get a few words in while seated in front of the audience. Lovato recounted getting her official offer for the show (“I just sat the phone down and was like, ‘Oh my God, this is totally a God thing’ because it came at the perfect time in my life") and stole the spotlight with her quick quips directed at Cowell. While Reid insisted that “no one gives anyone advice” within the judges panel, Lovato jumped in with: “What you did say, before I got on stage was, ‘Look, Simon is much uglier in person. Try not to laugh.’ And I kept it inside.”
Cowell’s response? “When I first met Demi… she looked at me in awe, and then she started to dribble uncontrollably. I had to say something.”
When the conversation, naturally, turned to One Direction (the Brit boyband was launched on the UK version of X Factor; Lovato is said to be dating one of the members), Cowell first suggested that the boys make a guest appearance on the show.

Admitting that Louis and Harry might be the best suited to serve as judges on the show (“they’re the ones that probably talk more than the others”), Cowell added, “All five of them should just come on as a judge.” Following screams of approval from the audience, he continued, “That would work.”
Asked whether a Lovato-One Direction collaboration was in the works, Cowell jumped in with an idea we can definitely get behind: "A Demi-Britney duet." This isn't the first time Cowell has proposed the concept, but the ladies are bound to oblige eventually, right?
Tell us: What do you think of the pop duo hitting the studio together?
The X Factor’s two-part season premiere airs Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. on Fox. Part two airs Thursday in the same time slot.
