2013 CFDA Nominations Announced
Alexander Wang, Oscar de la Renta and Proenza Schouler's Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernadez among those nominated for American fashion's most prestigious prize.
On Wednesday, the Council of Fashion Designers of America revealed their nominees and honorees for the trade organization's 2013 awards ceremony, scheduled to take place on June 3 in New York. The announcements were made at an event hosted by CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg and Nadja Swarovski, whose Swarovski Crystal brand is the annual ceremony's underwriting partner.
The prestigious awards are considered the Oscars of fashion, with past honorees including of Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors and Pierre Cardin.
While heavy-hitting names are on this years nominee list (Jacobs is up for Womenswear Designer of the Year, as is brand new Balenciaga helmer Alexander Wang), a bevy of lesser-known American design talents are making appearances, too.
Among them are designers Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne, whose innovative Public School label of Japanese streetwear-inspired, English-tailoring-infused separates is up for a Swarovski Award for Menswear. And Erin Beatty and Max Osterweis of Suno, who got a Swarovski Womenswear Award nod for the second year in a row.
Two of the three nominees for the Swarovski Award for Best Accessory Design are L.A. based jewelry designers Irene Neuwirth (whose colorful, natural-stone creations are worn by the likes of Scarlett Johannson and Emma Stone) and Jennifer Meyer (Katie Holmes and Jennifer Aniston are fans of Meyers' delicate, playful pieces).
Being honored at the Lincoln Center ceremony is two-time Academy Award-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, who will receive a Board of Directors' Tribute Award.
