AMAs 2012: Kerry Washington Chicest Star at Show
Defying the overwhelming tacky trends of the evening, the actress injected some class and elegance into the awards with her yellow Stella McCartney lace dress.
It had a lot of things. Raucous dance numbers. Over-the-top hip-hop phantasmagorias. Teenage dreams -- and nightmares. But one thing Sunday's American Music Awards did not have was any resemblance to real fashion. The Golden Globes, it's not. Hip-hop, teenage pop and country stars, who made up the majority of the acts there, don't get the idea of restraint, or understated -- or even mainstream fashion. What they get is attention, all eyes on me. Take Ke$ha as an example. Of what, we're not sure. If she was attempting a streetwalker, it surely was a Vegas one (who had escaped the circus).

But when Kerry Washington came to the stage as a presenter -- representing her new TV show Scandal and her upcoming movie Django Unchained -- she was refreshingly fashionable. Gorgeous, actually, in a yellow Stella McCartney dress over yellow lace, with a frayed hem. As colored lace and yellow are big spring 2013 trends, she definitely got the memo and was sending the message, "I know what's up in New York and Europe -- and I'm a movie star." With a good stylist, we might add.
Kerry is 2-for-2, after she wore a stunning peach bead-encrusted short Gucci dress at the LACMA Art & Film ball a few weeks ago. The wavy hair and peach makeup are dead chic, too. So are the off-colored shoes, a kind of melon color. But her shoes sort of match her lipstick! How cool is that?
