We've occasionally heard the name Romona Keveeza from actresses on the red carpet, but we didn't even really know how to spell it.
But when Angelina Jolie wore her navy tulle gown to one of her premieres of In the Land of Blood and Honey -- an unusual creation that was both ethereal and highly fitted -- we got a lot more interested. And we have a feeling everyone else did, too.
Keveeza started her career in New York selling high-end ready-to-wear to high-profile clients like Jackie O. Then she went off and established a private-label eveningwear label and a special-order bridal gown business. She built Romona Keveeza into a major wedding-gown house, but along the way, her evening dresses have been worn by Queen Latifah, Lea Michele (to the Grammys), Juliette Lewis and now Jolie, who showed up with Brad Pitt matching the blue dress -- his deep blue suit made the dress stand out even more. Then there's his eyes.
Keveeza is best known for her great fabrics and intricate details, and her silhouettes are interesting: sexy and pretty and innocent, all in one. She's very conscious of the body, and one of the best things about this dress is its fit.
Since Jolie hardly has time for a lot of fittings, we have to assume Keveeza is both fast and talented -- not to mention exacting. Her Legends by Romona Keveeza is in the top 10 wedding gown collections in the U.S., sold at Neiman's in Beverly Hills, and this is of course how Reem Acra and Vera Wang both broke into ready to wear -- through the red carpet.
We haven't seen the last of this unusually named designer, or her gowns.
