Style Notes: Paris Couture Week Takes Twitter, Team Karl Competes for the Olympics
THR breaks down the day's hottest fashion headlines.
Get the highlights of the couture shows and afterparties through Twitter. The New York Times compiled a list of tweets from attendees like Derek Blasberg and W Magazine’s Karla Martinez.
Anne Hathaway stepped out in a black Givenchy dress for The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan’s Hand and Footprint ceremony at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on Saturday. Joined by cast members Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Caine, Hathaway kept her accessories to a minimum: just Thierry Lasry sunglasses and her engagement ring.
Britain’s best and brightest came out for Wimbledon to cheer on the country’s shot at the title, Andy Murray, who lost in the final to Switzerland’s Roger Federer. Not to miss out, Duchess Catherine and her sister Pippa Middleton joined the masses in dresses by Joseph Vanessa and Danii Minogue’s Project D, respectively.
Karl Lagerfeld will christen a new Selfridges in London with his in-house line in addition to his new premium menswear line, Karl Lagerfeld Paris Man, debuting just three days before the Olympics begin. The Oxford Street store will also showcase an Olympics-inspired capsule collection entitled Team Karl. Featuring limited edition T-shirts designed in collaboration with London-based I Love Dust, one of the printed images will feature Lagerfeld himself throwing a discus in honor of the games.
Kanye West isn’t the only rapper making his mark on the fashion world. Brooklyn-bred Theophilus London is extending his foray into footwear with a Del Toro collaboration. This isn’t London’s first time designing; he worked with Cole Haan last year for a shoe collection, but this year’s project will feature just one pair: Del Toro’s signature velvet slipper topped with a rose design by London.
