Avril Lavigne's Ex Deryck Whibley Dresses as the Singer for Halloween
Chad Kroeger fired back on Twitter, writing, “We were going to dress up as you guys this year, but all the parties had celebrity themes.”
Looks like things are a little less amicable between Avril Lavigne and her ex-husband.
Deryck Whibley, who split from the singer in 2009 after three years of marriage, and his girlfriend Ari Cooper made a statement with their Halloween costumes, with Whibley dressing as Lavigne and Cooper as Lavigne’s new fiancé, Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger.
In a photo posted to Twitter, Whibley is seen mugging for the camera in a white hoodie, smudged black eyeliner and a long, blonde wig (complete with green- and pink-colored streaks). Sporting a curly, blond wig and some scruffy fashion hair, Cooper donned a Jack Daniels t-shirt and a black leather jacket as Kroeger (albeit with an outdated hair ‘do).
It’s unclear whether the statement is meant to be a dig at Lavigne and Kroeger -- who shocked fans by announcing their engagement after a brief, whirlwind courtship -- or if the costumes were in good fun. Whibley and Lavigne have long held a respectable and supportive relationship as exes (at least in the public eye) since their divorce.
While Lavigne has kept mum on the costumes (a rep for the singer did not immediately return The Hollywood Reporter’s request for comment and her Twitter account has remained inactive for more than a week), Kroeger does not appear happy about the dis.
“Hey Deryck, loved the costumes!” he posted via Nickelback’s official Twitter account. “We were going to dress up as you guys this year but all the parties had celebrity themes haha.”
