One of the best "second lines" -- a designer's bridge collection, less expensive, meant for a younger audience -- is Alice by Alice Temperley. The line got a bit of a boost on Monday when Beyonce donned a figure-hugging dress by the designer to her hubby's Carnegie Hall performance, benefitting the United Way of New York. The appearance was Bey's first since giving birth to daughter Blue Ivy Carter last month.
The British designer did not come out with a lesser priced line till about a year ago, unlike Marc Jacobs (Marc by Marc Jacobs), Donna Karan (DKNY), Michael Kors (Kors by Michael Kors) and even Zac Posen, but Temperley's dresses, blouses and jackets don't look all that junior. They carry on the themes of her designer collections (ornate dresses, ruched dresses, lots of color, deco details, gold buttons, scrolling, ruffle blouses) at about one third or one fourth of the price.
Even the Alice leather jackets are amazing, looking as motorcycle and designer as something Givenchy or Cavalli would put out. Now we're justified in our opinion that Alice is something special -- Beyonce opted for the Alice "Molina" dress in bright coral for her first post-baby outing.
Talk about body-after-baby: The singer is not trying to hide it in this dress! It also comes in black or purple.
