Makeup artist extraordinaire Bobbi Brown's new book, Pretty Powerful: Beauty Stories to Inspire Confidence, is unique for a beauty book because it uses real people as examples.
Brown features models from all walks of life, including athletes, executives, a few actresses (such as Gabourey Sidibe), stylist Annabel Tollman and even Billy Joel's daughter Alexa Ray Joel. She chose women who are powerful but don't want to wear a ton of makeup, and put the right makeup on them. The result? Amazingly confident and naturally beautiful looks across the board.
We all know the natural look is the hardest look in the world to apply, but Brown uses words and illustrations to show exactly how she does it. This is one makeup artist who doesn't make people over -- she makes them better.
Brown will be in Hollywood next week for two events. The first will be a private book launch hosted by fashionista and philanthropist Crystal Lourd at the Soho House on Oct. 9. Brown will be signing books, but her makeup team will also be on hand to give makeup lessons.
The following day, Oct. 10, Brown will do a public book signing from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Saks Fifth Avenue Beverly Hills, in -- of course -- the cosmetics department. Her team will be doing serious makeup at this event and if you ever wanted Bobbi Brown herself to inspect your makeup, or offer her choice of the lipstick shade for you, this is your chance.
