'Breaking Dawn' Wedding: Luxury Brand Product Placement Draws Criticism For Mis-Targeting
Carolina Herrera designed a $35,000 gown, Manolo Blahnik cobbled a pair of $1,295 high heels and the honeymoon Italian linen bed sheets are two month's rent.
Some industry insiders are wondering whether the latest film in the Twilight series Breaking Dawn Part 1 was mis-targeted by luxury brands Manolo Blahnik, Carolina Herrera and BMW. All of these luxury brands had blatant product placement -- and major merchandizing deals -- in the box-office topping film, starring that trend-setting trio, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.

Blahnik’s exclusive Swan Embellished Satin Pump certainly got their lingering closeup as the loveably gawky Bella Swan practices walking in the heels. You could also spot the shoes as Bella walked down the aisle and the camera opens to reveal the full wedding party. And the shoes can be yours for just $1, 295 at Neiman Marcus. Pre-order now! And they also come in black and red!
Herrera's long sleeved lacy low-backed wedding design is now for sale at wedding gown stores around the US for just $799. Of course, the gown won't be quite the same quality as Bella's couture version which cost an estimated $35,000.

Even the company that did the wedding invitations -- Connor Fine Engraver & Stationer is -- offering the same style for altar-bound Twihards for $25 a piece. Gulp. Anichini, the makers of luxury linens, showed off their expensive Italian bed sheets in the best light during the honeymoon scene. The company is now having a Facebook contest to win the honeymoon sheets. No, not the real ones used in the film. That would be too creepy. No, really. It would be.
So what do you think? Was there was too much emphasis on expensive luxury brands -- considering the dire economic climate -- for your taste and pocketbook? Or do you enjoy NOT being able to buy the fantasy fashions, shoes and accessories you saw in the film? One can -- after all -- always dream.
But by comparison, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo's merchandizing is a line of clothing designed by the film's costume designer Trish Summerville -- based on punk hacker Lisbeth Salander's lived-in look -- and sold exclusively at H&M stores. Prices range from $3.95- $199.00.THR's Daily Must Feeds
