Roksanda Ilincic is emerging as one of the hottest designers in the U.K. -- and the 6 foot tall Londoner by way of Serbia came to Los Angeles for the very first time for the London Show Rooms event on Oct. 17 at the Ace Gallery, which brought numerous UK designers to L.A.
She brought her very colorful spring 2012 collection to show to editors, stylists, etc. -- and the solid fuchsia dresses are sure to get on some great celebs, as well as her long white gown with long sleeves.
It was her blue satin shiny gown that Dianna Agron wore to the Emmy's - and Emily Blunt, Carey Mulligan, Ginnifer Goodwin, Gwyneth Paltrow and even Michelle Obama are all wearing her clothes. The Hollywood Reporter got to chat with the burgeoning designer, and here's what we learned:
The Hollywood Reporter: So how are you finding L.A. on your very first trip here?
Roksanda Ilincic: It's wonderful, are you kidding? You know it's raining in London every day! All of the designers are staying at the Mondrian, so it's like a big party. Of course, we all know each other -- but we don't get to spend that much time together at home. We've had dinner at the Chateau Marmont and the Sunset Tower, and I went to the Vintage Expo in Santa Monica over the weekend: we all went crazy there! I also went to the vintage store The Way We Were on LaBrea. I got there at 4 pm and when they were closing at 7pm, they had to throw me out!
THR: Do you find people know your designs here? You've only been in business a few seasons.
Ilincic: Yes! I really expected people not to know who I am. But people are coming up to me saying, "I really love your work." It's probably because I was working with the Starworks agency and they helped get the clothes to stylists and celebrities from the beginning. That started the whole thing. The minute you have two big actresses you get the rest! Michelle Obama wore one of my dresses to a state dinner with the Chinese president in DC, and then she wore when she came to London. Kate Middleton is wearing them too.
THR: Where are you sold in L.A.?
Ilincic: So far, Opening Ceremony. And Net a Porter online.
THR: I love the color block shoes you put with the fuchsia dress — shoes that are pink, green and white.
Ilincic: Those are Roksanda Ilincic collection done by Nicholas Kirkwood.
