The international trend-setting actresses who sat front and center at Karl Lagerfeld’s Fall/Winter 2013 Couture Collection Tuesday in Paris all wore their prerequisite Chanel ensembles.
Ukranian-born model/actress Milla Jovovich suited up in a ladylike three-piece suit with red accents. French actress Clémence Poésy looked ultra-hip in a LBD, accented by a glitterized, studded Chanel bag and pretty funky brogues.
German-born actress Diane Kruger -- who pulled off a winning fashion show of her own during the two-week Cannes Film Festival -- showed European flair wearing a jaunty newsboy cap to top her fit-and-flare pale blue Chanel dress.
As for the fashions on the runway, Lagerfeld’s self-proclaimed "New Vintage" collection – meant to appeal to fans of collectable Chanel pieces -- was just that. It featured some anachronistic silhouettes with modern suits and coat dresses of glittering faux tweed, worn with sparkly metallic tights and leather-like shiny sheaths worn as long gloves, and slender gowns slashed open or cut low at the back. The models also wore sparkly crochet snoods to add an extra vintage touch.
For cocktail hour, shiny blacks were shot with flashes of silver, as well as a metallic silver dress with fuschia trim. Flowers were everywhere and fluttering ostrich feathers adorned the sleeves of a sheer white blouse, tucked into wide-leg white slacks. More feather embroidery created a full length cape over a black-and-white dress.
Lagerfeld, who has designed for the label since 1983, deftly presented a show that celebrated Chanel heritage but also modernised the house's fashion archive.
Gap-toothed U.S.model Lindsey Wixson was the lucky model who got to do the show's grand finale, a breathtaking enormous wedding gown with feathers around her face instead of a veil.
