Dakota Fanning 'Sexually Provocative' Ad for Marc Jacobs' Fragrance Banned in Britain (Poll)
The 17-year-old "Twilight" star appears in the designer's sexually suggestive ads for Oh, Lola!, a fragrance aimed at a younger consumer.
Designer Marc Jacob's has a lovely fragrance line called Lola. And he recently launched a younger version of the scent called Oh, Lola!
But maybe he should have called it Oh, Lolita. The Telegraph reports that the British Advertising Standards Authority was horrified after having received several complaints about an ad for the scent showing Twilight star Dakota Fanning, 17, wearing a sheer (but not see-though) pink dress with a large bottle of the scent stuck between her legs, The ads
The ASA explained their ban: "We noted that the model was holding up the perfume bottle which rested in her lap between her legs and we considered that its position was sexually provocative. We understood the model was 17 years old but we considered she looked under the age of 16. We considered that the length of her dress, her leg and position of the perfume bottle drew attention to her sexuality. Because of that, along with her appearance, we considered the ad could be seen to sexualise a child."
According to The Guardian, Coty, manufacturer of Marc Jacob's fragrance, doesn't believe the ad suggested the model was underage or that it was "inappropriately sexualised' as it didn't show any "private body parts or sexual activity". They said the giant perfume bottle - shaped like a vase holding a blooming pink flower -- was "provoking, but not indecent".
Jacobs, a longtime fan of Fanning, has known her since she was 12. He told WWD why he chose Fanning for the Oh, Lola! face. "When we were speaking about who to use in the Oh, Lola! fragrance ads I had recently seen The Runaways (the film in which Fanning makes out with her fellow Twilight star Kristen Stewart). Dakota was in it, and I knew she could be this contemporary Lolita, seductive yet sweet."
And all this on the heels of Lara Stone's Calvin Klein ads being pulled from billboards in Sydney and Melbourne after the ASB received complaints that the ad resembled a rape. The Brits are cracking down!
