Donna Karan's Urban Zen Sets Up a Real L.A. Retail Location

Karan's Urban Zen line - luxury clothing, jewelry and home wares inspired by her exotic travels - is no longer a WeHo pop up shop

Donna Karan's fashion lines include her designer line, her bridge line DKNY - but she sold her name to LVMH years ago, so she's the creative director of both, not the owner. Then she started Urban Zen, which is only Donna and all Donna - it's clothing for men and women, much of it in cashmere; jewelry and home design products that have been inspired by her many trips to India, Morocco, Bali, etc. Some of the proceeds from Urban Zen go to her numerous charitable efforts for the arts, for kids, etc. She's had two pop-up shops in L.A in the last few years - but now Urban Zen has a real urban L.A. home: at 9045 Nemo, in West Hollywood. That's the tiny street behind Santa Monica Boulevard off Doheny.

Karan's first Urban Zen pop up lasted a few months and was located on Robertson Boulevard near Melrose. Then this summer, Karan hosted a big photographic exhibit in Santa Monica, and an Urban Zen pop up was built in there. But this past weekend, without much fanfair nor advance warning, she flung open the doors to her new permanent locale on Nemo. The phone number is 310-247-1255, and it's a fabulous place to buy gifts for men or women - but be prepared to drop some coin. Zen doesn't come cheap, contrary to most Angeleno's belief. Donna's yoga clothes will set you back, as will those Zen jackets that are masterfully cut.

Friends of ours were touring around town this weekend, and dropped into the shop. There was Donna herself, helping customers, with her traditional "that's fabulous on you!" repeated several times. The woman is nothing if not enthusiatic. Asked if she might attend BIll Clinton's Hollywood birthday party, she replied that her pal Barbra Streisand had already asked her - but that she'd made other plans. Meanwhile, Jennifer Aniston was seen popping in herself - and being a fan of stark black clothing, she's gotta love Urban Zen.
