Evelyn Lauder’s Death: Beauty and Breast Cancer Awareness Supporters Honor the Makeup Maven
Elizabeth Hurley, Zac Posen, and several cosmetics companies and beauty magazine editors were moved to share their thoughts on the late founder of the pink ribbon.
After beloved cosmetics queen Evelyn Lauder, 75, passed away Saturday from complications with nongenetic ovarian cancer, the beauty community and her partners in breast cancer awareness publicly mourned the loss.

Elizabeth Hurley, a longtime face of Estee Lauder cosmetics, tweeted after the news broke, “RIP my dear friend and mentor, Evelyn Lauder. I will miss you so much. The world will never forget your work for breast cancer.”
Estee Lauder put a memorial on its website home page, as well as tweeting the message, “In Memoriam: Evelyn H. Lauder 1936-2011. We celebrate her beautiful life.” Bobbi Brown and Clinique, makeup companies owned by Estee Lauder Companies, also tweeted the message.
Estee Lauder Companies added to its home page, “A visionary, true leader, and dear friend, Mrs. Lauder will be forever missed by everyone at the Estée Lauder Companies.”
Smashbox Cosmetics, another subsidiary of the company, added on its twitter account, “Very saddened by the loss of Evelyn Lauder. Her philanthropic work was just as, if not more, beautiful than her contributions to beauty.”
Being a beauty competitor didn’t stop Sonia Kashuk from mourning the makeup maven on her twitter account: “I am with great sorrow to hear of the passing of Evelyn Lauder, the founder of @BCRFWorldPink. A monumental loss of one exceptional lady.”
Dennis Basso, a fashion designer and supporter of the American Cancer Society and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, which Lauder opened the Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center at in 2009, tweeted, “RIP Evelyn Lauder a fine caring beautiful lady. It was an honor to know her.”
Famed fashion designer Zac Posen tweeted, “An incredible woman, RIP Evelyn Lauder. xoxo Zp.”
Companies that have worked with Lauder, either through her family’s makeup company or through her work supporting cancer awareness, sent out messages on twitter.
