New York Fashion Week Spring 2013: Francisco Costa's Calvin Klein Collection Is Clean, Structured and Polished
The final show of the week delivered a simple, neutral message.
The Calvin Klein Collection was the very last show at the very end of the Mercedes Benz New York Spring 2013 Fashion Week.
Calvin Klein got the nickname "Mr. Clean" decades ago for his neutral solids and clean-lined unfussy silhouettes. And the line, which has been designed by Francisco Costa for several years, is staying true to its roots.

Many critics had already left town and were flying home. But some who stayed for the show noted interesting frayed edges, bare necklines and contrasting linings. Although Costa talked more in his run-of-show about his plays on shadows and contrasts, his use of draping, compressions and folds, along with bustiers, peplums and cinched waists.
Instead of doing prints, an anathema for Calvin Klein, Costa created a printed illusion by putting an abstract black lace dress over a white satin bustier and mesh skirt. See more photos of the collection here.
The reviews aren’t all in. In fact, very few are posted online yet. But there certainly haven’t been any scathingly negative tweets about this modern structured and elegant show.

And Costa's Hollywood fashion fans, Amy Adams, Emma Stone and Diane Kruger, seemed to be greatly admiring his work -- and taking notes -- from the front row.
We have a feeling some of these designs will show up on these actresses during awards season. There are no great Oscar gowns here but there are lots of suits and dresses perfect for the Nominees Luncheon, Guild screenings and never-ending studio cocktail parties.
