Grauman's Chinese Theatre has kicked off its new ongoing Hollywood Legends Collection.
The movie house, best known for its premiere screenings and elite forecourt of cemented celebrity hand and footprints, will now showcase a large collection of iconic film costumes in its lobby.
A rotating selection of a 800-plus store of famous outfits from films, Grauman's says it plans to show Marilyn Monroe's gold lame gown from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Vivien Leigh's drapery gown from Gone with the Wind and Judy Garland's Wizard of Oz blouse among many others.
Many pieces of the collection, as the Los Angeles Daily News reports, comes from retired talent agent Joyce Aimee.
"There's no collection that I know of that's as complete as this," she told the Daily News. "starting with Mary Pickford back in the silents and going up to The Terminator in the 1980s."
The majority of the collection, however, comes from Aimee's longtime friend and former Hollywood dresser John Lebold. He and Aimee hope to ultimately auction the collection to benefit the Giving Back Fund and the Americana Dance Theatre, among other charities.
Yes, it's all technically for sale, though Aimee says they don't want it go individually -- one of the reasons why its being showcased together at Grauman's.
"We hope to sell it all in one lot," Aimee said, "to keep it together for generations to come."
A selection of the Hollywood Legends Collection is now on display at Grauman's, where the tour will get you some face time with the pieces.
