These days, fashion magazines go into pr overdrive, and promote their projects and parties almost to the extent that films and tv shows do. So a national magazine editor on a book tour, coming to Rodeo Drive to sell and sign copies is not such a surprise.
This is what Harper's Bazaar's Glenda Bailey will do next Saturday, Nov. 26. But a few years ago, fashion magazines didn't do promotion to this extent.
Bazaar has recently published a book, Harper's Bazaar's Greatest Hits, with Bailey as author -- and she has had a number of New York fetes to celebrate the book's publication, which also keeps the magazine in the news, as it's always competing with heavy hitters Elle, Vogue and W. Vogue recently had a major L.A. event -- the Vogue CFDA Fashion Fund. And Elle's had several L.A. events in the last few months. New York fashion mags are starting to realize they need to keep a hand and a major presence in Hollywood.
So Bailey will sign copies of the book -- and she'll sign a copy of Harper's Bazaar, if you bring an issue -- at the Coach store, 326 N. Rodeo Drive, between 12 and 2 p.m. This event is totally open to the public, so if you want to get a chance to meet a major N.Y. editrix -- well, this is it. Bailey is not the devil who wears Prada -- but she's been known to wear plenty of Lanvin and Derek Lam, and well -- she IS British.
